A subsidiary of Ford Motor Co., the 117 thousand square foot Ford Microelectronics plant was completed in 1985 in Colorado Springs.
The facility’s semiconductor unit manufactured silicon-based microchips for Ford’s automotive group, however the main focus of the facility was to research, develop and produce a prototype gallium arsenide chip deemed revolutionary at that time. Cobb installed thousands of feet of high purity process piping, extremely low-resistivity deionized water systems, and 26 CRAC units for the class 100 cleanroom of the facility.
