In anticipation of the large increase to the population in the Bay City area from the proposed expansion of the South Texas Project nuclear power plant, Matagorda General Hospital was built to replace the existing county hospital.
The hospital includes 117,000 square feet of space and a 58-bed capacity. Features of the hospital include orthopedic services, women’s services, two operating rooms, one orthopedic operating room, and 54 private rooms.
