Austin/Bergstrom International Airport

The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, originally an 18 gate new terminal facility with a footprint of 500,000 square feet, was expanded during construction an additional 500 feet in length to incorporate 6 more gates due to the amazing growth experienced in the Austin area. Constructed by Cobb Mechanical Contractors as the mechanical contractor, The Morganti Group as general contractor and Page Southerland Page as architect/engineer, the entire facility, including the terminal expansion, was accomplished within the original construction timeline, which was an outstanding accomplishment for the entire project team.

PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS
The mechanical design incorporated boilers, and chillers augmented by a 1 million gallon chilled water storage tank for off peak chiller operation. Fifty three separate air handling systems supplied the air to the terminal building, moving over 540,000 CFM of which was extensively filtered utilizing the latest high efficiency electronic air cleaners, and activated charcoal adsorbers. Cobb Mechanical Contractors fabricated 533,000 pounds of sheetmetal that was installed throughout the airport. Delivery of chilled water to the terminal building is accomplished through over 1000 feet of 16” pre-insulated carrier pipe running through four different expansion vaults which control soil / pipe movement.
